The system increases the efficiency of the attendants work, speeds up emergency situations and standard rolling process disturbances analysis. The above-mentioned effect is obtained as a result of continuous registration and visualization of an extended number of parameters, measurement devices application and the results presentation in a form, suitable for analysis. 

The system controls the roll motors of a reversing roughing mill. The principle of the system's configuration can be used for similar control systems on rolling mills of other types.

A fundamentally new approach was chosen to manage the problems of control over the rolling mill main drives, the rolling process and the drive are considered as a united multivariable system (motors - rolls - ingot - rollers). The system allows to reduce dynamic equipment loads and to increase the mill performance. This is achieved by means of continuous determining the complex factor of the current rolling process stability. Besides, the system develops an optimal strategy for motor torque and speed control.

Dynamic control of stand drives speed-torque characteristics is carried out to ensure stability of the rolling process. Partial damping of rolling-induced oscillatory processes as well as of natural shafts vibrations by the motors also contributes to the reduction of dynamic loads on mechanical parts of the equipment, induced by impact loads

 

 

The system's purpose is to provide automated ingot heating in the soaking pits of roughing mills with a view to reducing power consumption during the roughing mill unstable operation (by means of automatic for energy-saving process charts), as well as increasing the maintainability of the equipment in the soaking pits division of the roughing mill (by means of eliminating the risk of occurrence and development of unstable and emergency modes of operation).

Using the ingot of the new form is a modern advanced technology of semikilled and unkilled steel production

The technology allows:

  • to reduce the metal consumption for semikilled steel rolling down to 1.04 - 1.07 t/t, for unkilled steel rolling - down to 1.07 - 1.1 t/t.

    For comparison: The following values were achieved at Ukrainian metallurgical works under conditions of the conventional rolling technology for the ingots, cast into the big-end-down moulds: metal consumption for semikilled steel rolling 1.09 - 1.11 t/t, for unkilled steel rolling - 1.12 - 1.16 t/t.
